Job Description
As a School-Based Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA), you will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to help students overcome communication challenges that impact their learning and social development. You will provide direct therapy services, implement treatment plans, and support students in achieving their individualized education program (IEP) goals.
As a travel SLPA, you’ll take on short-term assignments in school districts across the country, bringing your skills to communities in need of immediate support. Key Responsibilities
Provide Direct Therapy Services: Work with students individually or in small groups to address speech, language, and communication goals as outlined by the supervising SLP.
Implement Treatment Plans: Carry out activities and exercises designed by the SLP to support students’ progress toward IEP goals.
Support Classroom Participation: Reinforce communication strategies that help students engage in classroom activities, peer interactions, and school routines.
Assist with Assessments: Collect data and observations to support the supervising SLP in evaluating student needs and progress.
Collaborate with School Teams: Work alongside teachers, paraprofessionals, and other support staff to ensure coordinated student care.
Communicate with Families and Staff: Share progress updates and strategies under the guidance of the supervising SLP to promote carryover of skills at home and in the classroom.
Document Student Progress: Maintain accurate, timely records of therapy sessions and student performance as directed by the SLP and school district policies.
Adapt to School Environments: Adjust quickly to different classrooms, schedules, and caseloads during travel assignments.
Job Requirements
Qualifications
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting, Communication Sciences and Disorders, or a related field
State licensure or registration (where required) as a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
Experience in school-based or pediatric settings preferred
Knowledge of IEP process and special education practices is a plus
Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
Flexibility to adapt to diverse school environments and student populations
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years of recent experience as an SLPA in a school setting
